ENT Department first started in DHQ Hospital in 1954. The Department was working in Saidu wing till 2006. Since then the Department is working in central wing, now both wings are called Saidu teaching Hospital. The teaching status was given in 1998.

Associat Prof. Dr Gulshan Hussain is the head and incharge of the department. It is a well equipped department consisting of 27 beds having facilities for audiometric assessment of hearing impaired persons. All sorts of ENT and head and neck Surgery is being performed including Rhinoplasty, otological surgery and thyroid surgery etc.  Dr. Gulshan hussain is the team leader. The team has special interest in otological, cleft LIP and palate repair and head & Neck surgery.

The unit has admission OPD on Wednesday and Saturday and ENT specialist and 24 hours emergency covere is given to ENT patients.Operation list on Monday and Thursday, rest of the OPD days are covered by ENT specialist. For emergency cases operation theatre remains open 24 hours a day. Foreign bodies aero digestive tract, Epistaxsis, Tracheotomies, and Trauma Nose and Face are the usual emergencies treated by ENT department.

The Department is well-equipped department consisting of one unit, having 12 beds for female and 13 beds for male and two side rooms.

ENT has two OPD rooms for patient’s examination, one counseling room, Minor OT, audio logy room, an emergency examination room and computerized data rooms in OPD as well as in the ward. Minor surgical procedures are carried out in minor OT under local anesthesia. Paramedical and Medical staff give 24 hour cover.

Department also has a Professors’ office, Doctors office, house officer retiring room, and Nursing staff office. Special attention is given towards the teaching of students who are taught in ward, OPD and operation theatres. For their teaching department has also made it possible to capture different operations through digital camera and show the students through computer screen.

3 seats are available for House Job in ENT department. The department is recognized by PM&DC. The accreditation of the department with CPSP for FCPS and MCP PG training is under process
